character name: The Master [Delgado]
Fandom: Doctor Who
Timeline: Just post-Frontier in Space. Classic!Who.
character's age: We're never told this exactly. However, he's likely the same age as the Doctor. ...Which still gives us little to go on, as the show's had numerous inconsistencies throughout the years as to this subject, and the Doctor lies about it half the time anyway. For the sake of this, let's just go with somewhere between 400 and 700.

powers, skills, pets and equipment: The Master is a Time Lord from Gallifrey, which means that despite their similar appearances to humans, their biology is very much different. To go into every difference would take a very long time, so here are a few key abilities that he has due to his race. Time Lords have the ability to regenerate up to twelve times, for a total of thirteen forms--essentially, cheating death. Their physical appearance changes during said regenerations, as do some aspects of their personalities, but their memories (generally) remain constant. There are numerous physiological differences, including having two hearts and a lower body temperature than humans, as well as a massively superior resistance to things such as extreme temperature, the vacuum of space, and radiation.

The Master also shows a keen talent at hypnosis. From his very first appearance in the series, he is able to hypnotize people to do his will with merely a phrase, or even simply a look. If you hear "I am the Master, and you will obey me", you're already too late. It's possible to resist his mind control, but a person's mind needs to be incredibly stubborn or trained to do so.

If possible, due to the nature of this world, I'd like to increase his mental abilities. Essentially, he would become more of a telepath, not only able to hypnotize people but read their minds as well. Of course, it won't always work, but I think it'd be interesting for him to be able to get inside of there.

As for what he has with him, the notable object is his weapon, the Tissue Compression Eliminator. Essentially, it's a portable shrink ray, shrinking its targets down to doll size and killing them in the process. He tends to use this often as both a practical weapon and to leave a sort of calling card.

canon history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_%28Doctor_Who%29 This would be the best link for it. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Master This is a bit more detailed, but includes within the main parts a lot of things from the extended universe that terribly contradict each other. Generally, I'm simply going by the show canon, with just a few things picked out from the EU (the name "Koschei", the shenanigans he and the Doctor got up to when they were children, basically just that).

personality:
The Master, in this early stage of his life, is not the manic and eccentric man that most fans are familiar with. This version is much more on the cool, calculated, and sophisticated side. Though his plans rarely if ever work out, he is very persistent and rather confident; still, he has a vulnerable side that comes out most often when it comes to the Doctor.

The constant drumming inside of his head is not something brought up until the new series, but it is said to have affected him since childhood; hence, he has already been dealing with them. This has led to a certain amount of psychosis that colors his actions, and has likely been part of what has made him become violent and controlling. Being unable to stop this sound and being completely at its mercy may be what gives him this severe urge for control and desire to rule the universe. Control is the key.

As mentioned before, the Master is incredibly persistent and stubborn. Throughout his appearances, his (often overly complicated and elaborate) plans never quite work the way he wants them to. But it won't stop him from trying. Time and time again he puts forward plans and attempts to take over Earth, other planets, or the universe as a whole. These are always foiled by the Doctor, but he keeps trying. One of the Master's weaknesses is his vanity and arrogance, a trait that while gives him confidence, leads to him very often biting off far more than he can chew. This becomes his downfall on many an occasion.

An important--perhaps one of the most important things in his life is the Doctor. A childhood friend turned rival, his fellow Time Lord is a central part of his life and many of his actions can be traced back to his obsession with him. The Master has no actual interest in Earth until the Doctor is exiled there. Suddenly, he's there all the time, despite that he keeps getting defeated there. Even when fighting against him the Master is constantly asking for the Doctor to join him and become, essentially, his companion. He still wants the companionship and closeness that he once shared with him. Even though the Doctor spurns him every time, he still tries, offering him a half share in the universe. The Master can't break free of his 'villain' ways but he won't stop trying to bring the Doctor over to his side. He craves his attention to the point where his attempted takeovers might be largely due to a cry for said attention. After all, the Doctor will always attempt to stop him. He claims to want to kill the Doctor, but when his life is in danger, he'll go as far as to step in to save him. For example, when the Master is using the Keller machine on him in "Mind of Evil", he stops when he realizes that one of the Doctor's hearts has stopped. He visibly panics and resuscitates the Doctor. He could have easily let him die, which would have eliminated his greatest adversary and road block in universal domination, but he can't. He won't let the Doctor die. There are times, such as this, where the Doctor causes him to look particularly vulnerable, especially when the Doctor is rejecting him. This all as well shows that behind his exterior, there still lies some sort of compassion and care, even if it's twisted and focused on one sole target.
